Curriculum Vitae Dr. Walter Moenig

Dr. Walter Moenig is Director for European Affairs at the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). In 2007 he has coordinated the German EU Presidency in the policy fields of research and education. He is the German representative in several EU and intergovernmental organisations, e.g. in CREST, EUREKA and the Board of Governors of the Joint Research Centre of the EU. During the German EUREKA-presidency (2009/2010) he is chairman of the EUREKA High Level Group.


From 2001-2005 he was Science Counsellor at the Permanent Representation of Germany to the EU in Brussels. He joined the BMBF in 1977 and served in various functions, among others as head of the personnel department, as spokesman of the minister and as head of unit for European research cooperation.


Dr. Moenig studied economics at the University of Cologne and received his PhD in Economics in 1975. From 1971-1976 he was Research Associate at the Institute for Energy Economics and Assistant Professor at the University of Cologne(1976).
